Call and Application
Students are enjoined to carefully read the instructions before applying.

• This application involves the filling of necessary information on biography (name, gender etc.), affiliation (programme, college etc.), academic performance (CGPA- submission of an unofficial transcript may be required).
• All applications must be done online, and students will not be able to access the application portal after the submission deadline.
• No application from parents, guardians and/or any university official will be accepted; all applications must be processed by students.
• Each applicant will be expected to contact two referees (preferably academic and professional advisors/mentors and not necessarily a staff of Bowen University) to complete an online reference form.
• An application cannot be said to be complete until referees complete the reference form.

APPLICATION IS OPEN ONLY TO STUDENTS IN THEIR PENULTIMATE AND ULTIMATE YEARS OF STUDY

• For a four-year course, applicants in 300 and 400 Levels are eligible;
• For a five-year course, applicants in 400 and 500 Levels are eligible; and
• For a six-year course, applicants in 500 and 600 Levels are eligible.

First assessment

• All successful applicants after the last day of the application will be notified by electronic mail on the details of the assessment in the form of a Computer Based Test (CBT).
• The test will assess applicants in the areas of management tact, ethics, decision making under duress, organisational skills, financial probity, human relations etc.

Psychometric (personality and aptitude) tests

After the assessment, the first shortlisting of the top 10 candidates will be done.

Second

Book assessment

• The 10 best applicants will be asked to submit a brief review of books they have read in the last six months. The submission will be followed by an oral interview on their submissions.
• A review panel will assess all 10 submissions and individually grade and submit their confidential grades through the online review system.
• A PowerPoint presentation of not more than 5 slides will be submitted for the book review.
• 5 candidates with the highest scores will be shortlisted for the next stage.

Third

Leadership assessment

• The 5 successful applicants will be asked to submit their responses to the leadership questions. The submission will be followed by an oral interview.
• An expert panel will assess all 5 submissions and individually grade and submit their confidential grades through the online review system.
• 3 candidates with the highest scores will be shortlisted for the next stage.

The Leadership questions are essay questions to be submitted using the online application system. Assessments of submissions will be blinded reviews. Oral interview assessment will carry only minimal scores (e.g. 10% of the total score)

Fourth

On-boarding
Briefings, training and other interactions by Principal Officers of the University and other staff members to bring the successful candidates up to speed with happenings in the University will be done. A leadership mentoring programme is being proposed with organisations involved with leadership issues to mentor the three (3) successful candidates. In-house on-boarding activities will be handled by the appropriate Directorates.
Townhall meeting and election
The 3 successful candidates will present a manifesto during a townhall meeting. Staff and students will be able to ask questions, after which only registered students will elect their Vice- Chancellor using electronic voting system. Bowen Radio 101.9 will broadcast the meeting live and call-in option will be available.
Announcement
The student with the highest vote will be announced as the Vice-Chancellor-Elect for one day.
Pre- Assumption
The successful candidate will spend a day with the Vice-Chancellor observing him in terms of activities and attending meetings/functions with him, if any, in order to thoroughly acclimatise with the demands of the Office.
Assumption
The successful candidate will hold office for One-Day as the Vice-Chancellor. The proposed day is a Wednesday. Schedule of duties will include to address the University community during the University Worship Service.

Fifth

Induction
The list of all applicants and successful candidates will be kept and regular follow-ups will be done to check their progress out of school. Successful candidates who complete their 24-hour appointment will be referred to as Student-VC-Alumni.
